The goal is to increase the public's awareness and understanding of people who have developmental disabilities so that these citizens will have increased access in our communities to employment, education, housing and social opportunities.

DD Month in March offers an opportunity for taking a crucial step toward improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities, but awareness activities should run year round. It is, after all, often attitudinal barriers that affect everyday life for these individuals. In addressing those barriers, fears and negative attitudes can be replaced with awareness and understanding.
Although, the materials were developed with Developmental Disabilities Month in mind, it is easy to adapt them for year-round use.
